Bio: The Casting Couch is what happens when a couple of Athens, GA indie rockers who love alt-country move to Austin and meet three alt-country Texans who love indi-rock. Lyrically-driven songs find a home in eclectic musical constructions and late-night drinking. Wendy Mitchell (Hi-Fi Mastodon, The GLen GoLd) and Lynn Boland (Summer Hymns, The Sunshine Fix and various other Elephant 6 projects) have assembled a stable cast of local cohorts with whom to collaborate. Bassist and alternate-accordionist Julie Stiles provides truly charming vocal harmonies and counter-melodies, drummer Matt Strmiska is as at home with a polka as he is with a 4/4 rocker, and lead guitarist John Hooker (Porklift) lives up to his name. Boland's horns, piano and accordion style certainly show his E6 root and Mitchell's innocence-yet-sultry singing style compliments her already-acclaimed abilities as a lyricist. Since the release of Row Your Boat, Boland left the band to devote more time to I Eat Records, which released six albums in the month of December alone. Boland’s role has been taken over by Austin-based songwriter and singer Bryan Crowell (Fluffers Union). Discography:
