Bio: The Catch formed in 2001, after singer/guitarist Carly Nicklaus and drummer Alissa Newton were introduced through a mutual friend. Nicklaus, who has been playing guitar since high school and Newton, who had been playing for years and studied classical percussion in college, recruited a couple of friends to play keys and bass with them. They played their first show - a three-song set - with Mirah, and their second to a sold-out crowd at a Weezer cover night. Soon after, Amy Rockwell, who had formerly played drums in Seattle band Dolour, signed on to permanently play keys for The Catch, and quickly developed her trademark sound. After The Catch's original bassist amicably left the band in 2002, the girls turned to friend Jenny Jimenez, who they thought would be a perfect fit for the group. Jimenez had been in and around the music industry for years, having sung in jazz clubs in New York and being a prominent rock photographer (working with labels including Epic, Barsuk, Pattern 25, Loveless, and The Militia Group; as the in-house photographer for several venues; and freelance to several music publications). With this line-up, The Catch has gained recognition in the Pacific Northwest, playing with bands such as Death Cab for Cutie, Nada Surf, Aqueduct, USE, The Bangs, British Sea Power, the Thermals, and many more. They recently returned from a successful West Coast tour with United State of Electronica (USE). Nicklaus, whose voice has been compared to a young Bjork, also lends her vocals and commanding stage presence to USE. Alissa plays drums in For Better of For Awesome, a duo with Andrew Moore of Kane Hodder. Having self-released a three-song EP in June 2004, The Catch recently finished a full-length with Erik Blood (Turn Ons, The Lights) and Cameron Nicklaus (The Pale) to be released on Made in Mexico Records in May 2005.
